The Bartholomew County Republican Ladies League awarded four $750 scholarships for 2018. The scholarships were presented to recipients at the annual Lincoln Day Dinner on March 23rd. A fundraising auction held each year at Lincoln Day Dinner raises money for the scholarship fund, and this year we are excited to report our generous donors helped us raise $5300 for next year’s scholarships!

Daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Greg Foley. Student at Columbus North High School and graduating 16th out of 4454 students with a GPA of 4.17. Plans to attend Grace College, IUPUC or Indiana Wesleyan University to study Secondary Social Studies Education. Kyla is a member of Show Choir, church youth group where she has gone on a mission trip, National Honor Society, Academic High Honor Roll all 4 years and track & field. Kyla is an AP government student who excels in class and participated in the Indiana State House Page program. Kyla is looking forward to voting for the first time this year. Quote from her essay: “The ability to vote is a right. It is a privilege, a kind of gift we have been given as Americans and as people”.
Daughter of Michael & Dena Hasler. Student at Hauser High School and graduating 5th out of 72 students with a GPA of 4.20059. Plans to attend Purdue University to study Ag Sales and Marketing in the School of Ag Econ. Grace is active in the National High School Rodeo Assoc. holding several offices. She is involved in student government as senior class secretary and junior class treasurer as well as Student Council VP, FFA, national honor society, Bartholomew Co. DAR Good Citizen Award, and Lilly Endowment Community Scholar. Grace is co-captain of the women’s basketball team and varsity runner in track and field. Volunteer with Feed My Starving Children and Hope Moravian Monday Night Meal Site. Daughter of Ronald and Deborah Mays. Student at Columbus East High School and graduating 5th out of 366 students with a GPA of 4.199. Plans to attend University of Indianapolis to study Exercise Science. Mallory was very active delegate to Hoosier Girls State learning how government works. She is officer in Key Club and is in the National Honor Society, is an East cheerleader, participates in track and field and was involved with the Turning Point Dance. Quote from her essay: “I feel like the right to vote means you are making a difference in the community, nation and even the world”.
Daughter of Christine & Anthony Sanders. She is a student at Columbus North High School and plans to attend Butler University to study Biology and Spanish. She is graduating 12th in her class of 454 with a GPA of 4.206. Madelyn is president of her high school Young Republican Club and received Luke Messer’s 6th Congressional District excellence award. She is student body president and participates in varsity sports, show choir and belongs to the National Honor Society. Quote from her essay: “Our democracy is only as good as the people who are willing to participate in it”.
